Cittern
The Cittern could be described as a 10 string octave mandola. There are many ways in which a Cittern player might have this instrument tuned. D A D G D. F C G D G. G D A E B. G C G C G or G C G D G are a few examples.
In the 16th century early versions of these were commonly found a found in British barber shops and hung on the wall for the use of customers. The instrument you see here though Is much bigger and more evolved to suit the folk music and players in this century.
